Fiberglass (fibreglass in Commonwealth English) is a synthetic silicate glass fiber (hence the name) polymer, used to make insulation, similar to asbestos, (of which it also bears a visual resemblance) and can be used as a construction material.

Production

It can be obtained by acidifying sand in the ore acidizer:

It can also be obtained by using a mining laser on sand with a crystallizing upgrade.

Uses

• Low-density elements, used in the Soyuz-FG and its orbital module.

•  Breeding reactor core which is used in both the breeding reactor and the radiation-powered engine.

•  Insulators. Its insulation crafting recipe is the same as it is for  polymer (two next to each other horizontally).
  • It is twice as effective as polymer-based ( Teflon,  bakelite,  rubber) insulation, 16 instead of 8, the same as  asbestos.

• It can also be used for making  silicon in the  electric arc furnace.

Trivia

• It has a block form, which outputs 40 nuggets of silicon when used in an electric arc furnace, as opposed to the 36 nuggets of silicon a block's worth of bars would.
• It is often also used as a durable construction material in certain applications as well.
• Fiberglass bars have been in the game for a while, only recently have they been given use or crafting recipe.
• Its tooltip reads: "High in fiber, high in glass, everything the body needs".
  • Whether this is a reference or just a witty joke is unconfirmed, but it's similar to a quote from The Matrix.
