Copper (aka industrial grade copper) is one of the common materials added to the game. Despite it being relatively common, it is still necessary throughout the game as it is required to create red copper for wiring and for motors.
Production
Its primary way of obtaining is by mining and smelting, as it's fairly common. Secondary means of acquiring copper is by processing copper crystals, which are delivered by asteroid miners or by using acidizers.
Copper can also be extracted from cobalt crystals or by bombarding cobalt with beryllium in a cyclotron. Otherwise, you'll need direct or more conventional methods.
A more later game method is to send an asteroid miner to collect these crystals.
Uses
Numerous technological purposes, primarily revolving around electronics and heat conductance. While it's needed for machine templates, bullets, early game batteries, copper coils, and turret tech, it's needed to be blasted with redstone in a blast furnace in order to produce red copper which is used in a lot more applications.
Trivia
- Copper becomes green when exposed to oxygen from oxidation.
- Copper ore is actually green due to this oxidation.
- As of Minecraft 1.17, copper, as well as its ore, exists in vanilla Minecraft.
