Polymer is what its name implies: a polymer, which can often be confusing since there are multiple other polymers added ( bakelite,  rubber,  latex,  fiberglass.). Polymer is, more specifically, a type of plastic.

Production

Polymer bars can be made with petroleum gas, fluorite, and coal in a chemical plant:

It can be also acquired by smelting plastic scraps, which can be obtained purely through exploration.

Uses

• Polymer is used in many machines, items, and NTM music discs; for the player, a major benefit from polymer can be electric tools, also requiring  high-speed steel.

Notes

Petroleum gas is obtainable from schist strata. As such, polymer is obtainable without basic oil processing: if saved for machines like the arc furnace and cracking towers, the player can progress swiftly through the early oil stage.

Trivia

• Polymer is a name for any plastic or rubber.
  • It is specifically polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon), as the recipe suggests. It is also confirmed to be Teflon from the name of the achievement that is aquired when upon picking up Polymer for the first time.
• Polymer is the first obtainable plastic; after unlocking oil cracking, it can be replaced with bakelite in every recipe.
