Cobalt-60 is a highly radioactive isotope of cobalt. It has potential applications in salted nukes. Currently, it has few uses and no major methods of production. It is naturally pyrophoric due to its radioactivity.

Production

It is easily produced by breeding normal cobalt in the breeding reactor.

It can also be obtained by centrifuging depleted Watz boron absorber rellets.

An indirect and inefficient way of producing cobalt-60 is using the SILEX on fallout with a 2% chance of being in each pile.

Uses

It has an RTG pellet that is somewhat weak, but cheap to produce.

Trivia

  • It is known in real life for being an extremely powerful and hazardous gamma emitter, emitting two gamma rays in its decay. This has uses in medicine and theoretical weapons.
