Coltan is a dull ore that serves as the primary source of tantalium with a niobium byproduct. The ore spawns uniformly in the overworld in a roughly 1,000 block wide area, not in one large vein. Unlike Australium ore, the spawning location is randomized, but locating the spawn area is made easy through a coltass, which always points to the center of the deposit.

Drops from the ore are impacted by both silk-touch and fortune. The raw ore block (obtained via silk-touch) may be shredded for 2 coltan powder, while the regular chunks, impacted by fortune, are shredded for one.

The powder form of coltan is used for the first steps of tantalium production. The powder is toxic similar to asbestos, hence a gas mask is recommended while working with any coltan-related processing.

Uses

Coltan has no direct uses besides purification into tantalium.

Two pieces of coltan powder (crushed coltan) are purified with the use of 1 coal powder, 250 mB of hydrogen peroxide and 500 mB of liquid hydrogen in the chemical plant. The result is purified tantalite powder which is later used for Pandemonium(III)tantalite solution.
