Schrabidium is a transuranic superactinide metal, being quite possibly the most well-known and iconic material in the mod. It is quite radioactive with each ingot providing 15 RAD/s. It has a multitude of uses including high-tier reactor fuel, next-gen nuclear weapons, producing truly exotic materials, and even as a core part of highly advanced bullets and batteries.
Schrabidium has a slightly heavier isotope, Sa-327 (solinium), is much less useful overall, except in the production of euphemium and in nuclear fuel for the PWR, since it is actually notably more energy dense.
Production
For more information, see Guide: Schrabidium Creation
Schrabidium is primarily produced via nuclear transmutation, where intense neutron flux from fission is exposed to uranium in a somewhat controlled manner, breeding it into schrabidium.
This can be seen in the mod's lore, as schrabidium was first discovered after a nuclear detonation revealed a vein of uranium ore right on the edge of destruction, and through the apparent intense heat, radiation, and pressure, it was able to be turned into schrabidium.
Methods of production ordered by least infrastructure required:
- Exploding nuclear waste barrels near Uranium ore
- Processing depleted LEP ZIRNOX, MEP PWR or MEN PWR fuel in the PUREX, however this requires 500 mB schrabidic acid and only gives 0.75 ingots of schrabidium
- A Higgs Boson particle is also capable of transmutating uranium-238 into schrabidium at 100% efficiency via the cyclotron.
- It can also be produced in a particle accelerator, but only in tiny amounts (nuggets) from ionized particles, a byproduct of most fusion reactions.
Uses
Schrabidium is the "easiest" special material to obtain and it has the most uses as well to reflect it. Its incredible density, radioactivity, and instability allow it to be used in armor, conventional and nuclear weapons, energy storage, high-tier circuitry, and nuclear fuel.
Pure Schrabidium Fuel Pellets are the best source of power for a Watz Power Plant, but a normal reactor needs something more stable. Schrabidium can be partially stabilized by mixing it with neptunium and beryllium in fuels. This makes SNB (schrabidium-neptunium-beryllium) fuel, which comes in the forms of high, medium, and low enriched Schrabidium fuel.
It can be used in the custom nuke, where Schrabidium items contribute to the schrabidium stage in it:
- Nuggets: 0.5
- Ingots: 5
- Blocks: 50
- Trisulfide cells: 7.5
Properties
Schrabidium has a very high atomic number of #126, and approximately 312 amu in atomic weight. It possesses a gargantuan density of 39,700 kg/m3 (about twice that of tungsten). It appears to be very magnetic, working well with boosting tungsten's magnetism to create magnetized tungsten, which appears to be quite a temperature resistant material as well.
When schrabidium undergoes specific conditions of radiation, pressure, and high temperature, a unique nuclear reaction will happen, producing a fölkvangr field. This is only possible considering schrabidic nuclei are volatile and reactive.
Schrabidium emits a kind of high penetrating radiation that causes temporary blindness for as long as the schrabidium item is held, which is only blocked by tier 3 hazmat suits (or equivalent) or higher or anything with appropriately shielding goggles. This penetrating radiation is not present even when physically close to schrabidium, only being apparent once an item composed of mainly schrabidium is held by the player.
Trivia
- On the cusp of being unstable, right inside the island of stability.
- Is actually grey in color, the blue color apparently comes from quick corrosion, probably oxidation.
- Solinium's color is probably representative of schrabidium's true color.
- Is bred from Uranium most of the time.
- Chemically "likes" neptunium, beryllium, and tungsten (but mostly neptunium).
- It is a reference to sakuradite from Code Geass, but somewhat more realistic and with a German sounding name instead of a Japanese one.
- It was originally called "saralloy" and was discovered by Dr. Schrabauer and some unnamed company, as hinted with found notes in structures.
- It can be inferred that schrabidium does not exclusively require nuclear transmutation, as a deprecated device called the schrabidium transmutation device was able to synthesize schrabidium by simulating the high-energy conditions of fission using electrical energy, although inefficient.
- Schrabidium is element 126, which in real life, is called eka-plutonium. Eka-plutonium is expected to have similar chemical properties to plutonium. Thus, it would make more sense for schrabidium to be produced via plutonium transmutation rather than uranium-based breeding.
- Most of the information came from the original wiki, the page was originally made by HBM himself.
