Niobium is a purplish-blue metal which is useful for superconductors, chemistry, and capacitors. In NTM, it is very prevalent as a capacitor for most circuits and every upgrade, in addition to some other minor uses.
Production
In the early-game, breaking up rare earth chunks in an anvil can sometimes produce a nugget's worth of niobium; centrifuging it instead guarantees a doubled output. Much better sources are possible, however: Purifying coltan into purified tantalite will produce niobium powder. Moreover, the new rare earth bedrock ore will similarly yield one powder per washed sulfuric byproduct.
Uses
Niobium can be made into an item capacitor for circuits as well as the block capacitor:
It also sees use as a catalyst in multiple machines.
Finally, it sees a few other uses, such as for crafting desh and nitanium powder.
Trivia
- Despite being used in superalloys and superconductors IRL, niobium has no alloy form in NTM.
- This is likely due to the presence of similar materials that fulfill its role, such as desh for its heat-resistance and advanced alloy or neodymium for superconducting magnets.
