Latex is a cheap, natural, and organic polymer, notably used as an alternative to rubber in certain recipes. It can be obtained without an oil refinery, making it a useful early-game ingredient; it is often used in lieu of insulators.

Production

To obtain latex, simply place four dandelions in a crafting table or in the player's mini inventory grid. This will give a ball of latex, which can then be smelted for the bar form.

Alternatively, latex can be obtained from pressing jungle wood logs using a flat stamp; this recipe allows for its automation with tree farms and stamp production.

Uses

  • It can be used in multiple early game recipes that would otherwise take rubber, such as conveyor belts. This is not the case for later game recipes or progression-relevant machines, however.

Trivia

  • Latex can be made purely from dandelions, making it one of the first items craftable by the player.
  • In real life, raw latex is a fluid usually made in specific trees and other plants as a defense mechanism. The most famous of these is the Pará rubber tree native to the Amazon rainforest, hence its abstraction as any jungle tree in the mod.
