Latex is a cheap, natural, and organic polymer, notably used as an alternative to rubber in certain recipes. It can be obtained without an oil refinery, making it a useful early-game ingredient; it is often used in lieu of insulators.
Production
The simplest way of crafting latex is using four dandelions.
Alternatively, latex can be obtained from pressing jungle wood logs using a flat stamp; this recipe allows for its automation with tree farms and stamp production.
The latex can then be smelted to produce the latex bar.
Uses
Latex can be used as a cheaper alternative to rubber in many recipes, such as the conveyor belt.
It can also be acidized with 25 mB of sour gas to make rubber.
Trivia
- Latex can be made purely from dandelions, making it one of the first items craftable by the player.
- In real life, raw latex is a fluid usually made in specific trees and other plants as a defense mechanism. The most famous of these is the Pará rubber tree native to the Amazon rainforest, hence its abstraction as any jungle tree in the mod.
