Alexandrite is a rare mineral, it is used for the crafting of special machines and blocks.
It spawns in the overworld as an ore, very rarely, with only one vein per 100th chunk on average. It also can only be mined by explosives or by pickaxes with the ability to mine blocks with this property.
It is however, affected by the fortune enchantment, but there is hard cap of only 2 alexandrite per ore, regardless of the level of fortune used.
Alexandrite ores can be detected by neutrino lens, and will be seen on its GUI with a bright blue color.

Trivia
Alexandrite changes color based on light level, the more artificial ("block") light there is, the more the color shifts from blue to green to purple. This mimics the eponymous Alexandrite effect found in certain minerals, which causes the hue to change with incandescent light.
