Caesium-137 is an extremely radioactive caesium isotope and common nuclear fission product. It has potential applications in salted nukes. Currently, it has no uses. It is naturally pyrophoric.

Production

As Cs-137 is a major fission product, it is mainly produced by recycling short-lived nuclear waste. On average, short-lived waste contains ~9% Cs-137. It also comes from the fuel cycles of MOX and highly enriched plutonium-239 Fuel in the research reactor.

Uses

It currently has no uses, but has potential plans to be used in salted nukes.

Trivia

  • Due to it being a common fission product, it can be found at nuclear disaster sites like Chernobyl or Fukushima, as well as nuclear detonation sites and in the fallout of them.
