In Nuclear Tech Mod, nitric acid is a commonly used fluid for the production of flammable/explosive items such as TATB, solid rocket fuel, and the fluid nitroglycerin. It is also heavily used in the electrolysis of various crystals and the cleaning/processing of bedrock ore.


The main use of nitric acid is in material refinement, along with sulfuric acid in the bedrock ore processing chain. Due to the wealth of materials that can be produced with bedrock ore processing, it is recommended to have a substantial setup which can automatically produce nitric acid given the large quantities required for automated processing.

Production

Nitric acid is produced in the chemical plant and industrial mixer from niter and and sulfuric acid or with only niter in the industrial liquefaction machine.

Uses

Nitric acid is used in the ore acidizer to to either "nitrate" separated bedrock ores (500 mB) or to combine 64 bedrock ore crumbs into a single piece of ore (1000 mB). Nitric acid is also used in an electrolysis machine to directly process certain (typically metal) ore crystals into molten metal (100 mB). One of the largest uses is the final step in the bedrock ore chain with the electrolyzer, where it's used to turn the processed bedrock ore into molten metals (100 mB per operation). The other uses of nitric acid in the chemical plant and industrial mixer are shown below.
