The M42 nuclear catapult, better known as the Fat Man, is a man-portable, shoulder-based catapult system that fires mini nukes (as the name implies). These destructive rounds can decimate large groups of foes, and certain round types can cause massive damage to structures.
Background
From Nukapedia: The Fallout Wiki:
The M42 Fat Man was developed at Fort Strong near Boston, Massachusetts. Development began in February 2076, with the goal being the development of a man-portable tactical nuclear launcher easy enough for use by troops on the ground, to destroy reinforced and entrenched positions. Problems manifested instantly, as warheads were simply too heavy to clear the blast radius fast enough to provide safety for the operator. Even stripping them to the minimal possible size failed to produce an acceptable effect.
Mechanics and Play
The Fat Man is an effective area-of-effect (AoE) weapon. It can be loaded with various ammo types to increase radiation and explosive yield (Mini Nuke, High Yield), to fire multiple projectiles (Mini Nuke, Tiny Tots), to not break blocks (normal Mini Nuke), or even fire balefire (Mini Nuke, Balefire Egg).
Crafting
The fat man can be crafted with saturnite plates, components, and a plastic/PVC grip. This locks the Fat Man behind mid-late game.
