The Minigun is a powerful midgame weapon using 7.62mm ammunition. Despite its low per-shot base damage, it more than makes up for it with its firerate.
Crafting
The minigun uses technetium steel or cadmium steel for its barrels and receiver, meaning it requires at least a ZIRNOX or PWR to make:

Mechanics and Play
The minigun has a very high rate of fire, allowing it to dish out a lot of damage very quickly despite the base damage being much lower than other 7.62mm guns. The gun never has to be reloaded as it uses an ammo belt, i.e. it fires bullets straight out of the player's inventory.
The minigun is not very accurate, although a large part of the inaccuracy can be mitigated by using the "sights". The minigun however lacks traditional sights, meaning the view just ends up lining up with the rotating barrels. In addition, the high rate of fire means that recoil stacks up quickly, making the gun hard to control and aim. Still, in addition to being devastating at close ranges, it remains somewhat effective at medium range, since the sheer volume of projectiles means that hitting things at range is still possible.
Mods
- Gear Train: Slows the minigun down, halving the effective rate of fire. This also decreases recoil, meaning that controlling the gun becomes easier.
- Auxiliary Electric Engine: Increases the minigun's rotation speed, tripling the effective rate of fire. Since the original rate of fire is already one round per tick, it simply makes it so the gun fires three shots at once each tick, almost like a rapid fire shotgun. This also means that recoil builds up much faster, making the gun way harder to handle.
- 5.56mm Conversion Kit: Allows use of the smaller and cheaper 5.56mm ammo.
- .50 BMG Conversion Kit: Rechambers the gun to use the much heavier .50 BMG ammo type.
Trivia
- The minigun is based on the Chaingun from Doom 2016. Notable differences however include the ammo belt being on the other side (to make space for the ejector) and the crudely stapled-on ammo crate on NTM's model.
- The minigun is one of few weapons that don't have a smoke trail coming out of the end of the barrel after firing, instead it comes out of the ejector port on the right side.
- The minigun's stock RPM is a meager 1,200 RPM, or 3,600 RPM with the auxiliary electric engine installed, compared to the old pre-gun update miniguns that had 6,000 RPM. This was done because the original miniguns were basically unusable due to their ridiculous ammo cost, and exceedingly hard to balance because of the sheer volume of projectiles they would produce.
- The original miniguns used special 5mm rounds, mirroring those from the 3D Fallout games. The gun update cut back on ammo types, getting rid of the 5mm caliber. Due to the changes in the rate of fire, the new minigun adopted 7.62mm, rather than 5.56mm.
