The Lever Action Rifle (often named "Henry", after the 1860 Henry rifle it resembles) is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .44 Magnum. It's distinguished by the use of the largest earlygame caliber as well as high ammo capacity.

Crafting

The lever action rifle only requires basic steel, gunmetal and wood, making it one of the earliest craftable weapons:

Mechanics and Play

The lever action rifle is the first gun to use .44 Magnum rounds, being much more powerful per-shot than the .357 Magnum or 9mm rounds of the guns on the same tier.

While being a bit difficult to aim due to its primitive sights, it's exceedingly accurate (having perfect accuracy when aiming at high durability) making it suitable for longer ranges.

The main strength of the gun is also its weakness: Compared to most early non-automatic firearms, it has a very high ammo capacity of 14, compared to both revolver types which only hold six rounds. However, the gun does not use a detachable magazine or clip, instead each round is fed into the lower tube one by one, making a full reload take just above ten seconds. Opening and closing the tube takes two seconds combined, and loading one cartridge takes half a second.

All in all the lever action rifle is still a rather suitable weapon, as its magazine capacity means it can fire for quite some time before a reload becomes necessary, and reloads on a partially filled magazine are proportionally shorter. In a pinch, hitting the fire button while reloading cancels the current operation, making partial reloads possible, allowing the gun to get ready much sooner.

Lincoln's Repeater is the lever action rifle's B-side. Its stats are near identical, however it features double base damage, and has no hipfire penalty. From a visual standpoint, it uses a stock made from darker wood, a lighter, less-reflective barrel, ornate engravings on the gunmetal receiver as well as the lever and sights also being made from gunmetal.

Lincoln's repeater cannot use the same caliber conversion mods as the base lever action rifle.

The lever action rifle can use every single caliber conversion kit with the sole exception being .44 Magnum due to already using that caliber. Yes, that includes .50 BMG.

Trivia

  • The lever action rifle is based on the 1860 Henry rifle, however instead of using modern .44 Magnum rounds, it was loaded with much shorter .44 rimfire cartridges.
  • Due to the lack of proper reference images at the time of modeling, the ejection port was not modeled and animated, rather it's just a black square that is painted onto the top of the rifle.
  • The model includes a tang sight (comparable to sights on modern grenade launchers) due to weapons at the time typically having a relatively low muzzle velocity, requiring the sights to be adjusted for the distance fired to account for the projectile arc. Despite the gun in-game being tilted up a few degrees to make proper use of the tang sight, the bullet fires completely straight, without being affected by gravity.
