The Silenced Submachine Gun (aka the American-180 or just the Silenced SMG) is a blazingly fast-firing submachine gun chambered in .22 LR. Its mediocre damage-per-shot is made up by its rate of fire and massive 177-round magazine.

Crafting

The silenced SMG can be crafted with high-speed steel and gunmetal components, plus a wooden stock and grip:

Mechanics and Play

The silenced SMG is a bit of a black sheep compared to the other SMGs — its .22 caliber suffers from pitiful damage stats and, even worse, low armor-piercing stats for its upgraded variants.

The other SMGs, however, cannot compete with it for pure crowd control; by default, one reload can kill nearly 18 unarmored enemies. More importantly, though, the default 1.25x headshot multiplier on .22 LR soft points allows it to kill a ten-heart enemy in only 8 shots, making skilled play a prerequisite for maximizing the silenced SMG's potential.

This upside has a hard time overcoming the weapon's downsides, though. It has a somewhat sluggish reload at 3.3 seconds, and .22 LR — although cheap per round — takes up a lot of inventory space compared to any other caliber.

Trivia

  • The silenced SMG's model was made by Vær.
  • The weapon animations were provided by Mellow.
  • It is wholly based on the American-180.
    • The inspiration for the gun itself is the Silenced .22 SMG from Fallout: New Vegas.
    • However, the SMG from New Vegas appears to have an integral suppressor, whilst the silenced SMG only has an external suppressor (similar to the real-life gun). Additionally, New Vegas's rendition has a 180-round capacity.
      • In reality, those three additional slots are 'dummies', with the triple-stack pan magazine containing one per layer.
