Rare Earth Elements

From HBM's Nuclear Tech Wiki

Rare earth elements (REEs) are uncommon metals materials that are difficult to obtain, especially in large quantities throughout the game. Most are only obtainable from a single ore, rare earth ore, which is uncommon and only forms in small veins. Other than this, you can acquire them via the cyclotron. NTM includes 8 rare earth metals, most with few uses outside of desh, which is a super-alloy of all of these rare earth metals.

Actinium-227

Actinium is a notable element, see its own page for more information.

Boron

Boron is a significant material, see its own page for more information.

Atomic Number58

Part of the lanthanide series.

Production

  • Primarily extracted from rare earth ore, it is of average rarity.
  • Bombarding lanthanium with lithium produces it.

REE that has an ingot form, useless.

Production

  • Primarily from rare earth ore, it is more common.
  • Sometimes Meteor Treasure Blocks can drop the ingot form.

Uses

  • Desh
  • When bombarded with lithium, it produces cerium.

Trivia

  • IRL, it is called "lanthanum".
    • The roof of its name means "to lie hidden".
  • The name is prefixed with "semi-stable", which is leftover from a scrapped idea, which is the reason it's in NTM, but Bob has no memory of what that idea was supposed to be.

Trivia

  • Neodymium is most known for making high-strength permanent magnets.
  • IRL, it is not actually considered that rare, no more so than copper or nickel.

Uses

Trivia

  • It actually has the same Mohs hardness as titanium.
  • IRL, it can used for superconductors, if made into a niobium-titanium alloy. it is currently the most widely-used superconductor for industrial purpouses, and has a critical temprature of 10 Kelvin.

Zirconium

The most common REE in game.

Zirconium is a significant material, see its own page for more information.

Trivia

  • IRL, REEs are a specific set of 17 extremely similar elements, which are usually lanthanides or at least have similar properties to them.
    • Some non REE materials are included in this list, such as boron and actinium, because they come from the same ore and fill the same niche as the other actual REEs. So in all intents and purposes, at least in NTM, they may be considered, rare earths.
