Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator and Radiolysis Chamber

From HBM's Nuclear Tech Wiki
The radiolysis machine itself.

The Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator and Radiolysis Chamber, or just the Radiolysis Chamber for simplicity, is one of the most efficient RTGs in the mod.

Crafting

It is made in the assembly machine:

RTG

The GUI for the radiolysis machine.

It is the most efficient RTG in the mod. It makes twice as much energy as the RT generator if the same pellets are used (eg: a single polonium RTG pellet makes 10 kHE/s in the radiolysis chamber compared to 5 kHE/s with the RT generator.)

In the GUI, the slots for the pellets are found at the right side of it.

Radiolysis

Its most interesting feature is that it is able to do cracking recipes, just like the catalytic cracking tower.

It can do the same recipes as the cracking tower and at the same quantities, but with the advantage of being much smaller than the cracking tower and not requiring a steam input.

It also has its own unique recipe, there 100 mB of water give 80 mB of hydrogen peroxide and 20 mB of liquid hydrogen.

The fluid inputs and outputs need to be managed externally, via barrels or tanks.

However, the radiolysis chamber requires at least a heat level of over 100 in order to be able to perform the recipes, otherwise it won't work.

Sterilization

There isn't much known about the radiolysis chamber's sterilization feature other than that the sterilization slot (found between the RTG pellet slots and the cracking slots) voids food items. It will remove the "Contagion" tag, which only comes from the MKUNICORN virus and can be used to stop or prevent the spread of the virus.

Pros and Cons

A comparison between the radiolysis camber and the cracking tower:

Pros:

  • It is a lot smaller that the cracking tower, making it suitable for underground bases;
  • With strong RTG pellets, the radiolysis machine can become faster than the cracking tower;
  • It produces energy as an added bonus.

Cons:

  • It is more expensive than the cracking tower, requiring technetium steel and many thermoelectric elements.
