The blast furnace
The Blast Furnace.

The Blast Furnace is a carbon fuel-powered, 7x3 pseudo-multiblock furnace used to create different alloys out of two inputs.

Crafting

The blast furnace can be crafted in an anvil with the following recipe:

Usage

Example of usage: Blast furnace powered by coal producing steel.

The blast furnace takes two compatible items in the top and bottom slots with irrelevant order, and can be powered by carbon fuel (coal, lignite, coke, etc); it has a capacity of at most 16 coal and it consumes half a piece of coal per operation.

It can accept materials in ingot/solid or powder form; however, it is more fuel-efficient to combine powders inside a crafting grid beforehand, and smelt the alloyed powder externally.

It can also have hot air blast input into it to increase the speed up to 500%.

Every operation will also generate 100 mB of flue gas, which can be burned with a flare stack to generate a bit of power. If it is not extracted and the buffer is full, it will be vented and generate soot.

Fuel

Below is a list of allowed fuels in the blast furnace. A block of any fuel type is equivalent to 10 of that fuel.

Allowed Fuels
Fuel Coal Equivalent
Coal 1
Coke (any type) 2
Solid Fuel 2
Presto Log 5
Solid Fuel (Rocket Propellant) 4
Lignite 0.75
Coal Briquette 1.25
Lignite Briquette 1

Some fuels are allowed, however they give more than the total capacity of the furnace, and thus can't actually be used as fuel. These fuels are:

Trivia

  • Before release 1.0.27_X5714, the blast furnace was much smaller (1x1) and had an optional blast furnace extension to accelerate it rather than hot air blast.
  • It was formerly known as the alloy furnace.
