Lava is a liquid in Minecraft, added as a liquid and viscous fluid in the mod. It can be made infinitely from liquefying blocks. Buckets of lava can be used as fuel source in most machines that burn solid fuel, which will return an empty bucket.
Production
Lava can be obtained naturally, either in lava lakes or in caves. Alternatively, it can also be produced in an industrial liquefaction machine using 4 blocks:

Much like in vanilla Minecraft, buckets of lava can be used to produce heat. The following machines can utilize lava as a fuel source:
Buckets of lava are particularly useful in blast furnaces as a single bucket will completely fill the heat buffer.
Lava can also be used in an industrial solidification machine to produce obsidian:
