Clay Tablet

From HBM's Nuclear Tech Wiki
A clay tablet.

Clay Tablets are rare items that can be found in certain structures. A tablet will show one random recipe from the pedestal crafting pool, usually only partially, with slots having a 50% chance of being unknown.

Clay tablets come in two variants, depending on where they have been found:

  • Black Rooms guarantee one pedestal with a tablet on it, as well as up to four extra pedestals with legendary gun crafting items. These are standard tablets which show recipes for most legendary weapon recipes.
  • Spires have a chance to spawn a clay tablet on top once its spawner becomes inactive. These are the bloodied tablets, which have a very limited recipe pool, showing only three secret weapons as well as ammo.

Useful for complaining about poor quality copper.

Using

A very unlucky clay tablet, showing all ingredients as question marks.

Upon using the tablet for the first time, the item receives a randomized "seed" NBT tag that determines the exact recipe it shows, so that using the same tablet again will show the same recipe.

The tablet will show the following infos:

  • On top, above the actual tablet, the item produced by this recipe is shown
  • On the left-hand side, there are nine slots, representing the crafting ingredients. Additionally, between the slots, there are compass directions, meaning that the orientation of the recipe items on the pedestals is important. The slots can display one of three things:
    • An item
    • An X, meaning that this slot contains no item, therefore a pedestal on this position isn't necessary at all
    • A ?, which means whether an item is required or what item it is is unknown. More clay tablets for this recipe need to be found to find the missing information.
  • On the right-hand side, there is a grid which shows how a pedestal crafting setup is constructed. Up to nine pedestals are required, with the center one in red holding the resulting item.
  • Below that, there is a red pedestal icon and a redstone torch. This just explains that, in order to perform a recipe, the centermost pedestal needs to receive a redstone signal.
  • Finally, on the bottom right side, there is an extra condition. Unlike the crafting ingredients, the extra condition is always shown. The following conditions may be necessary to perform a recipe:
    • A dash means that no extra condition is necessary, so nothing except the items on the pedestals matters.
    • A white moon means the recipe can only be performed while there is a full moon, with the moon being close to zenith.
    • A black moon means the recipe can only be performed while there is a new moon, with the moon being close to zenith. It's hard to tell when the moon is at the right spot, so using a clock or simply repeating the redstone pulse until it works is advised.
    • A sun means that the recipe can only be performed at noon.
    • An angel means there needs to be a nearby player with positive karma (i.e. a reputation of at least 10).
    • A devil means there needs to be a nearby player with negative karma (i.e. a reputation of -10 or less).

If all requirements are met and a redstone signal is applied to the centermost pedestal, all items on the pedestals are consumed, and the center pedestal explodes, creating the item. The explosion is purely cosmetic and does not destroy blocks or damage entities.
