Stirling Engine

From HBM's Nuclear Tech Wiki

The Stirling Engine is a simple power generating machine that converts heat directly into energy with 50% efficiency. It also comes in a Heavy and Creative mode variant which increase the tolerance for heat before a potential overspeed of the main gear.

Usage

The Stirling Engine due to its ease of crafting in the early game might be considered as a useful power source. In order for the Stirling Engine to function you must first build an external heating source such as a Firebox or Heating Oven. The Stirling engine is prone to overspinning at relatively low heat levels which can cause the main gear to fly off and destroy blocks however it can generally still be retrieved and replaced. Due to the poor maximum tolerances the Stirling Engine can only handle 300 TU/t (producing 150 HE/t or 3 kHE/s), any more than that would cause an overspeed and eventually break the machine.

Crafting

It is crafted in a Tier 2 Anvil:

Variants

Heavy Stirling Engine Variant

The Heavy Stirling Engine is a much improved Stirling Engine capable of handling five times the amount of thermal energy at 1500 TU/t an amount of thermal energy that only a few fuels could even hope to produce in a regular heating oven. There is also a Creative Mode Stirling Engine, which has no thermal limit whatsoever.
