Mask Man (sometimes MaskMan, no "the") is a cybernetic boss mob added to the game. He is incredibly powerful, to put it simply. He is quite tall, standing over twice as tall as an Iron Golem and several times more massive overall. He has a staggering 1,000 HP to match his size. On both arms are 2 large guns, a short-range 6 barreled minigun on his left, and a long-range energy weapon on his right. He is used to acquire the "Maskman Coin".

Background

He wears a grey jacket and a gas mask. There is a medal (in similar appearance to a Purple Heart) on the left side and a presumed name tag on the right side. His right pant leg is torn-up, exposing his knee and revealing a metallic skeleton. Little skin is shown, but from what is seen, it is rather pale. He has dark grey hair and his ears can be seen uncovered by the gas mask.

Spawn Conditions

Every hour the game will have a 1/3 chance to check the player. If the player is underground and has over 50 RADs, Mask Man will spawn on the surface. To prevent him from spawning, simply stay on the surface or don't be irradiated. To initiate his spawning, remain underground and slightly irradiated for a few hours then return to the surface and engage him.

Combat Characteristics

He will spot the player from a very long range and begin to use his energy weapon. This weapon functions similar to a shotgun with buckshot ammo, where it fires multiple projectiles at once. These projectiles are green and are fairly damaging. Fortunately, these are relatively easy to dodge due to spread. He also summons small meteor-like entities to fall from the sky in your general vicinity which causes some fire and block damage and can catch you off guard if you're busy dodging the energy projectiles. He can also use these to "jump" high into the air. This makes approaching Mask Man very difficult and dangerous, running away also is hard as he will pursue.

In the mid-range, he will fire a blue/red energy orb (looks sorta like ball lightning) in your general direction (It may also fire in the long-range too) This orb will then begin to fire blue energy bolts directly at you, which makes taking cover and dodging difficult. These bolts are very damaging, even in diamond armor. They cause minor block damage. He will also fire small missiles (function more like grenades) at you the come out from his head too. These fire, move, and will kill very quickly. They are concussion type, which means while they have no block damage, they have a larger blast radius and deal more damage.

In the close-range, he will begin to fire his close-range minigun. They make blue trails and hurt badly. He will also use the minigun in combination with other attacks which will kill you quickly. At this point, you are almost certainly dead, as he will likely use all of his attacks on you which will kill you before you even get a chance to react, quite simply.

All attacks give a lot of knockback if they manage to hit you, which means you'll be unable to move properly, trapping you and allowing him to bring the hurt.

How to Bring Him Down

Surviving

Vanilla armor will be completely ineffective against Mask Man, even good mod armors like Advanced Alloy or CMB will fall short. Schrabidium armor is a must. Lots of ammo and healing items (like stimpacks) must be brought along too. Move around quickly so his projectiles won't hit you as often. Keep your distance as his explosive attacks can dig holes in the ground, trapping you with him

Weapons of Choice

Very high damage weapons are desired. Such as miniguns, rocket launchers, 12 gauge shotguns, etc. Preferably something that can function in the medium range, doesn't require precise aiming or slow you down to fire. Melee weapons will likely not work as close-range fighting is not advised, but if you use a Schrabidium Hammer, it may be possible.

Abusing Mechanics

  • He uses many explosive weapons, which can dig a hole and trap him.
  • Depending on the range, he may only use his shotgun-like energy weapon and nothing else, which is easy to dodge.
  • He is prone to infighting with other Mask Man entities, which will make fighting a group much easier.

Purpose

He drops some XP, a skeleton skull, a M65-Z Gas Mask, but most importantly, he drops the "Maskman Coin", which can convert 4/12/20 gauge shotgun shells, .50 BMG, 5.56mm, and 5.56mm flechette rounds into an IF-R&D equivalent, which are more or less Mask Man-like ammo. He also drops V1.

This coin is also required to construct Gerald.

Trivia

  • Was once defeated using only a wooden axe.
  • If you look inside his skull, there is a message saying "IOU 1 brain".
