The FEL

The Free Electron Laser (commonly referred to as the FEL) is a pseudo-multiblock machine utilized with the SILEX to produce various laser wavelengths, needed for laser separation of isotopes within it.

Despite firing a beam of free electrons, the FEL uses a wavelength filter medium (the laser crystal) to tune the oscillation rather than utilizing typical methods, achievable through structural precision in the nanometer range, making it a solid-state laser as well.

Operation

To activate the FEL, the requirements include the laser crystal, a sufficient power supply (the FEL requires 10.0 MHE), and the activation of the switch in the GUI.

The SILEX must be placed at least 2 blocks away from activated FEL, or else it will melt. One FEL can "power" five SILEX machines. To stop the laser, concrete (or any sufficiently durable material) can be used. Glass will allow the laser to pass through, making glass effective as touch prevention to block a player accidentally obstructing the way.

Dangers

There are apparent dangers to the operation of the FEL. One key danger is the actual laser, which can easily burn even a well-protected player. Here is a list of the effects given by different crystal mediums used:

  • CO2-Desh burns you (Infrared)
  • Bismuth blinds you until you die (Visible Light)
  • Schrabidate-Antimatter burns you (Ultraviolet)
  • Spark gives you ~400 RAD/s (Gamma)
  • Digamma gives you ~0.2 DRX/s (Digamma)

Crafting

The FEL can be made in an assembly machine, with the following recipe:

Energy Consumption

This is a table for energy consumption. Note that processing speed gets faster the lower you go in the table.

Crystal Type Energy Consumption/s
CO2-Desh Laser Crystal 75 KHE/s
Bismuth Crystal 225 KHE/s
CMB-Schrabidate-Antimatter Laser Crystal 675 KHE/s
Spark Laser Crystal 2.03 MHE/s
Digamma Laser Crystal 6.08 MHE/s

Trivia

  • Bismuth makes a rainbow beam.
  • Digamma laser crystal and 2 other things have a very specific number of 1916169, the reason why is unknown.
    • It has a meaning but you should not know why.
  • Gamma is very rarely used.
  • Digamma seems to just be a direct upgrade to gamma in terms of speed.
  • Ultraviolet is used for Schraranium Crystal processing.
