Duds are apparent bombs that failed to detonate before hitting the ground (hence the name), most likely as a result of some kind of war long ago. They come in 4 variants: "balefire", "TNT", "nuclear", and "salted".

Spawning

Duds generate occasionally all over the overworld. They can also be found on a dud lab's main floor, having destroyed the ceiling, and submerged in the desert atom's cooling tower.

Dangers

Duds can be linked to a detonator and will explode, with a different explosion depending on the variant. The "balefire" variant is especially dangerous, as it creates a balefire explosion.

All duds except the "TNT" variant also emit constant radiation in a small radius.

Loot and Uses

Using a high-tech bomb defusing device on a dud will extract the warhead's component. This yields different items depending on the variant:

Variant Loot
Balefire Balefire Shard
TNT TNT
Nuclear TNT, Plutonium
Salted TNT, Plutonium, Cobalt

The balefire variant can also be used for euphemium creation.

Trivia

  • A dud's orientation when jutting out of the ground is seemingly random, but constant on a per-block basis.
  • Duds were long assumed to be antimatter-based bombs, as they could be "milked" for antimatter cells by using bismuth magnetic extractors. This feature has been disabled in version X5334, which also introduced non-antimatter variants. Before that, all duds were effectively of the "balefire" variant.
